Cody Rex
OOT A2Y Artist
Cody Rex is a freelance double bassist
and educator in the Ann Arbor and Detroit-Metro areas. He earned a
Master of Music degree in double bass performance from the University
of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance in 2009, and completed
his Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Bowling Green
University.
As a proponent of contemporary music,
Cody has premiered several new works for double bass and has worked
with prominent composers such as Samuel Adler, Michael Daugherty,
Frederic Rzewski and Bright Sheng through the Bowling Green New Music
and Arts Festival. He most recently performed in the 2008 Carnegie
Hall premier of composer Evan Chambers' song cycle, The Old
Burying Ground.
Cody has held performing and teaching
positions throughout the United States and Canada, include the
Domaine Forget Academie de Musique, Marrowstone Music Festival,
Bowling Green Summer Music Institute, Pine Mountain Opera Festival,
Blue Lake Fine Arts Festival International Tour. He
has also performed with the Detroit Civic Orchestra, Arbor Opera
Theater, Toledo Symphony, Dearborn Symphony, Plymouth Symphony,
Midland Symphony, and Adrian Symphony.
Cody currently resides in Ann Arbor, MI with his
girlfriend Emily, and their two cats Mona and Juniper.
